I was thinking, can you keep your hammock in its skins and sit on it (carefully) like a lounger? I'm thinking in the context of cooking under your tarp during rainy weather or using it to sit down and change clothes, etc. Not so much for kicking back, because obviously you would fall down and go boom if you leaned back.

I wouldn't if my hammock had a ridge line! It would most likely break the ridge line.

I would not know, but I wouldn't either. I have an HH and the ridge line is not the same strength line as the rest of the lines on the hammock. When you lay in the HH the ridge line does not support the whole weight so it is not made to do so. The other thing is it would not be very comfortable to tell you the truth.

Why sit on the equivelant of a tight rope when the lounge chair is available by pulling back the SS?

You can break the HH ridgeline that way. I'm with the others - why bother when you can have a comfy lounger?

If it's a HH, you can stake both side tie-outs (or if you've got a hammock with tie-outs...) to the one place- I think SGT Rock does this. You probably are concerned about space under the tarp, that might help, but you can't sit on it.

I have hung my body over a skinned hammock, no structural ridgeline, held up ok. It was before I trusted by tying up skills- wanted to be able to land feet first. :)
