I posted earlier about some fabric that I found, and while I was getting it measured, I had a conversation with the man there who was cutting the fabric. He had worked there for a really long time, and he told me that all Wal-Marts are in the process of phasing out their sewing departments. Didn't know if anyone else had heard this, but I don't know what I'm going to do if this happens!

I talked with the people in Bentonville, and there is still going to be a lot of stores that keep their fabric departments. I have 5 stores with fabric departments within 30 minutes. Most of the stores that are losing them have other fabric stores close by, so Wal-Mart is phasing some of those stores out.

The WalMart at home already lost their fabric department. They remodeled about a year ago and there it went. However, the bigger stores in the neighboring towns have both kept theirs.
Here in Lexington, there seem to be a good mix of Wal-Marts that have fabric sections or don't.

There was a thread on this subject a long time ago. In that thread there was a link to an online petition for WalMart to keep their fabric section. Most of the WM's in my area have stopped carrying fabric. I was told at one WalMart that still sells fabric that few stores would keep their fabric section but most stores would stop selling fabric.

Well here in conway, we have a hancock, hobby lobby, and two sewing stores, both of the walmarts might be losing their fabric depts. That would be horrible because the other stores never have anything good!

There was a guy working the fabric department. Guys don't know anything about that kind of stuff. ;)

I have heard different things. It isn't a money maker by any means for the company. I am trying to stock up while I can before everyone closes. Reguardless of what I hear, I think it is only a matter of time before they close all of them.

the Scottsdale wal-mart has stopped carrying fabric about a year ago. :(
