I am considering getting a new lighter pack for up to 1 or 2 day 2 night trips. I like the looks of the Go light packs. What do you guys think? Are they any good or should I be looking at something else? I Have narrowed it down to either the Quest or the Pinnacle pack. I have to order it off the net because there are no backpacking stores any where around me so I want to get it right the first time.
Thanks! Jason:)

Hello,
I've got a Mariposa Plus from gossamer gear. Really light, nice pack. Check it out. Try Gossamer Gear - Ultralight backpacking and hiking gear (http://www.gossamergear.com)

There are reviews of the Pinnacle (http://www.backpackgeartest.org/reviews/Packs/Frameless%20Backpacks%20and%20Day%20Packs/GoLite%20Pinnacle%20Pack/Owner%20Review%20by%20Ernie%20Elkins/) and Quest (http://www.backpackgeartest.org/reviews/Packs/Internal%20and%20External%20Framed%20Backpacks/Golite%20Quest%20Pack/) pack at backpackgeartest.

Both packs seem to be pretty large volume for 1 or 2 day trips for ultra-light or even light-weight backpacking. Do you really need that much volume?

FWIW, the pack I would probably buy if I didn't make my own is the ULA Conduit (http://www.ula-equipment.com/conduit.htm), but I have no experience with it other than trying it on one time.

GoLite has a very good reputation among the backpackers I know. Although as with all gear YMMV. The fit can be very selective because they do not have the range of adjusments more substantial packs have. They can be somewhat fragile because they are specifically minimalist packs. Silnyl does not stand up to rocks, thorns and briars. What about making a gearskin pack if you are just looking for a quick, light one night pack? There are threads here about making them..

Thanks guys keep them coming! As always your all a great help! Even though I am now confused on what to get! My biggest concern is how well the hip belt will help carry the load. My back isn't what it use to be and my sleeping bag and T.C. jungle hammock are not the lightest gear. So I do need the hip belt to help out quite a bit.....One more thing my torso is 23" would a 22" pack still work out OK?...Now how am I going to carry all that BEER??????????

as far as I know, GoLite doesnt make sil packs anymore. they discontinued the sil line and introduced the larger pack line, that the Quest is in.
here are my top picks, judging by durability, features, and price. They all come in reasonably close in weight- and size (volume)

ULA Conduit - Made In USA
Gossamer Gear Mariposa Plus - Made in USA
Golite Pinnacle/Jam2 - China
Granite Gear Vapor Trail - China or Vietnam

to be fair, the mariposa is the most fragile as it is made of sil in places, but protected by durable and light mesh that also double as great orgazational pockets.
The pack you see in my avatar is the GoLite Jam a smaller version of the Pinnacle. nothing fragile about it, made of Dyneema (spectra!)
