Hi all! After 2 trips of borrowing hammocks and tarps from friends I've pretty much decided that I need to switch. After reading and trying out so many different kinds, I've decided on a Speer (though the Warbonnet was pretty cool too!). I had high ambitions to make one, but decided I just don't have the time I need to dedicate to the project.

I'm trying to decide between the standard Cat Tarp or the new Winter Tarp. Does anyone have any thoughts on this to help me make my decision?

Thanks!

Kara,
I LOVE my Speer Winter Tarp. Very versatile and great cover. I'm totally happy with it!

Go with the Speer Winter tarp. Makes a great summer tarp as well.:D

Another vote for the SWT. Great tarp and versatile.

Kara, welcome to HF. Glad to have you with us. I have a SWT too (I like to call mine a Speer Weather Adjustable Tarp, or SWAT for short) and love it. It's a great tarp for any season and definitely worth the money. You really can't go wrong with it, if you ask me.

You would only gain 2 oz. and have to pay $20 more dollars for the SWT. I would go with the biggun!

Welcome!

Thanks for everyone's input!! I really do appreciate it, and I'm very anxious to have my own stuff so that I can hang ALL BY MYSELF! Ha ha!

I think the winter tarp design is the way I'm going to go. Can't seem to come up with any downside to it.

Thanks for the welcome. I hear you are a DIY pro when it comes to making hammocks and such. Perhaps I can get a sewing lesson first...

I don't consider myself a pro, but I can fake it with the best of them. Did you end up getting the sewing machine?

Yes I did, and thanks for the help. It's a late 50's Singer model 404.

After a bit of thought, I'm thinking I'm probably going to go RAW's route on the tarp. Thanks again!
