Hello Everybody,
I'm starrione, I'm from south Alabama and I just wanted to say how excited I am to be a part of this.
I got sold on hammocking after hearing so many ppl talk about what a wonderful nights sleep they had, how easy it was to set up... etc... I have frozen to near death in tents for ages.
So, a friend and I were talking about it, and he pointed me this way. Yes, I confess, I used your videos, (Shug, Stormcrow, MacEntyre, Professor Hammock) to glean a wealth of info, and then started reading and reading here.

Well, it's just obvious... you guys pointed me the right way! So, Thank You, everybody. I have a Warbonnet 1.7 DL now, and some nice stuff from the Jack's... I am ready to get back outside and do a bit of rock hounding and artifact hunting.

I can be found at just about anywhere in Bama... Old St Stephens, in the south, or on Cheaha in the north. I am looking forward to meeting more of you as time goes by. Would love to spend some time up at the Sipsey or Moundville.. Ya'll hollar...

Hello,

I just bought my first hammock this summer. It is a HH Ultralight Backpacker. So far I love it. Before I bought the hammock, I had bought a Big Agnes Lost Ranger sleeping bag and pad. The sleeping bag has no insulation in the bottom, instead it has a sleeve for the pad. The pad itself has primaloft insulation in it. I was concerned after getting the hammock that the BA sleeping bag/pad would not work with the hammock. On the contrary, it works great! I am a very happy hanger!

hello, I'm trying to lurk on less forums and as I'm going to buy a hammock this week (WBBB) i thought i would introduce myself.

Im currently in South Australia and will use this fairly regularly. Every few months i camp out at some medium'ish dense forestry (for paintball). Semi regular camping trips (based out of a car generally)but i am also involved with the world solar car challenge so i will be trying my luck through out some of the deserts of Australia (desert = not very many trees)

Now for the obligatory questions... Im actually allergic to the cold (google it if you like) so being warm is important but i am having trouble sorting through information on under quilts. Temperatures would generally be getting down to 40 but they can get down to freezing (what ever that is in fahrenheit :) )

i am 5'10" and 240 (all this conversion is killing me!!!) so something big and wide would be good.

Other than that im sifting through tarps but i feel that is less of an involved decision as it is for shelter and may not be put up all the time...

Any other non american members help me out with postage (or other international hammock enthusiast) tips? or are the vendors for these products pretty good.

Well I have convinced my husband to give hammock camping a try. :D

I have an eno doublenest and we'll do mosquito netting and a tarp. Planning to use our exped mat inside, at least the first time, and we'll each try a night or two in it before purchasing another full setup.

I have a question though for n.cal people. How do you know if the park will allow hammock camping? I have only seen Big Basin prohibiting it, but I would hate to get there and get set up and be told we couldn't hang.

Thanks!

Howdy all

I have been camping with a hammock for 32 years.
Was looking for a rain fly last year when found this site.
It is full of all kinds of stuff that I would never have thought
of. Snakeskins, Whoopie Slings, insulation top and bottom,
tree huggers and all the other things.

My hammocks are 2 net style about 20 yrs old, one cloth that I
picked up in South America about 12 yrs ago, a pocket hobo that
is 11 yrs old and 3 new ones from grand trunk, have not yet used the new ones.

Rain fly was a old and I mean old military rain poncho, have a new
one from one of the places found on th net. Use my old military sleeping
bag in winter, rest of the time a wool blanket a sheet and no see bug net.

Well that is much to much for a first time post

see ya'll on the trail

Just wanted to thank everyone for the wounderful feed back, which made my first real hang great. Most all my camp mates thought my HH was really cool but everyone was afraid to try it out. Maybe it was the look of my marlin spike hitch.

I used three pads and a zero degree sleeping bag. It was very comfortable.
I think the first night I slept the wrong way. The second night had the zipper on my right side on slept much better. Lots of adjusting to get in sleeping bag.

I was wondering about these hammock quilts? How do you guys sleep with the top and bottom quilts, do you also use a sleeping bag or just the quilts and some layer of clothing. The Sierra Mt. can get cold at night. I have some old sythetic bags i might try and convert. Is that to much bulk or should I just stick with one pad and a good sleepping bag?
Thanks

Just started hiking a bit on the AT this summer and I got hooked. Have finished 4 overnight hikes on the trail over the past few weeks. I have spent a few nights in shelters and in tents. The shelters are great, but I can never get comfortable, even using a Thermo-Rest Trail-Lite pad. If you have ever been on the trail in maine you know it is an oddity to find 20 sq/ft without roots and/or rocks so a tent is simply not practical. After doing a little research I happily found the answer in the trees. I am now armed with a Hennessy Expedition with zipper entry and I love it! Planning my first overnight with it later this month.

This is a great sight and I have learned a great deal from the forums.

Thanks All!

Hello all,

I suffer from some back injuries and I can not ground camp anymore. So I purchased a Clark Jungle Hammock NA and tried it out in the back yard. Pain meds have a very weird effect on me, they keep me up and up and up. It was very interesting to watch all the visitors that come to the yard at night. Dogs and cats wondered by sniffing but clueless. A rather large skunk spent time digging for food all the no wiser to me. Just before daybreak another animal entered the yard and was poking around the garage door with a screwdriver I startled the crap out of him from under the canopy of my dogwoods that I hung from. Second night was boring and my neighbor said he thought he had heard a snoring sound so I must have been in a good place that night. Hammocks, yea the're a good thing. :D
