Thank you for the "Welcome" and picture compliment. I hope to make it to the Michigan hang with otter46544!

Sorry not to have responded - talk about a 4 month brain fart.

I have a lot of respect for folks that are twisted enough to devote their lives to helping kids make it through the tough years of adolescence.

Is where you work similar to "The Methodist Home" in Waco, TX? Years ago my wife and I sponsored a student there as a "weekend family".

I'd love to do a hang when I get my gear all made up. I'm making my own gear, so I don't have everything I need. My goal is to have everything made except the UQ an TQ by the end of Feb. Maybe something in March could easily work. I'd show up just to chew the fat and eat something around a campfire or hike.

I sent a mail to otter 46544 as well, I have some acreage in Edwardsburg with woods and a pond, would be fun to do a hang and chew the fat around a campfire sometime soon.

I may have a friend coming as well. Not sure yet. That may work out well. Thanks.

Nice to meet you too. I'm in Elkhart, close to the 20 off-ramp. I went backpacking twice this year for the first time in like seven years (plus a river adventure) and I used to go all the time. I'm not from Indiana and haven't found many wild places to go within 1-2 hours drive. I need to have some cold weather clothing/gear made or bought. I'm ordering some items to make some hammock gear. Next year, I plan on doing a week on the AT, doing a hike or two in southern Indiana/KY, a hike in Michigan, and hopefully attend a couple of forum hangs. My sleeping on the ground hasn't gone so well and I like the idea of quick setups/takedowns.

I live in Mishawaka. This is mostly new to me. I like camping and want to get into hiking. I have yet to stay overnight in my hammock. I had planned an overnight for last week but that was canceled due to opening day of gun season. Didnt want to wake up being shot at. Now Im shooting for Christmas time for my first night out in the hammock. Nice to meet you on here.

    Additional Biography
Starting in '09, I have been getting back "into" the outdoors. In my search for lighter gear, cheaper gear, and more comfortable gear, I have started the process of making my own gear. Also, the effort to become a lightweight or ultra-lightweight backpacker has been elusive. Currently, my gear (to skin) is about 32pds. If I can cut the big three by at least a total of three pounds, I'll be under the 30# mark for three seasons. So far, I use a DIY stove/cooking equipment, DIY dehydrated meals, and DIY water filtration setup. I'm looking into making my own tarp, hammock, and backpack. And yes, I've cut my toothbrush in half.
