Swedish Sector 63, 18F report
This was going to be a combined trip with gear testing, Geocaching and sub 0C 1 night hanging.
We wore expecting temps around 17-18F.
Due to a water disaster, i had to change sleeping bag in the last minute.
I changed from Ajungilak Tyin Winter (-5F Synt) to Western Mountaineering Puma (-15F Down).
The other gear i brought:
Hammock = Warbonnet BB (1.1 SL) slept with moski net flipped over the shelf.
Tarp = MacCat Delux
Uq = preachers 1/2 UQ
Pad = 1m of crap CCF pad (+2 small pads that i move around on cold spots)
Stoves = UL Bushbuddy + Bios#2
We arrived at the Wind Shelter at Årsjön from Tyresta at approx 13.00.
It was crowded with people, it´s a very popular area!
The shelter is nicely placed by a small lake in a national park.
But we wore not worried, the sun sets within 2 hours, the crowd needs to head out very soon, so we started rigging.
It was some American girls there as well, trying to learn the art of skating :D
We inherited the fire from the last couple leaving and sat down by the fire
and started preparing food.
And in skates about 10 people, 3 adults and 7 kids.
They totally took over the place, they grabbed more wood from the wood shelter
(they place wood in shelters so you wont hack down the forest) placed 300m away.
They took a hole backpack full (same amount me and my mate used for the hole night).
They placed all the wood on the fire and starts waving sleeping pads to get fire going, sparks was flying like crazy.
And there i sit, 1m from the fire wearing all down eq, not very happy :scared:
We came to think about all the chores needed to be done and moved away from the fire.
They finally got the live coal they wanted , grilled a few burgers and left.
The sun sets!
Calmness.
We sparely used torches and found out doing stuff in almost total darkness is a total different story.
While we are sitting by the fire and cooking dinners on our Bushbuddys :laugh:
2 young guys with huge backpacks (same as ours) walks up, they planned to sleep over at the shelter as well.
They chit chat for a short while and wishes us a good night sleep and walks away to the next shelter.
Anyone noticed the difference in approach :D
**** cold, to just sit by the fire, so:
We hit the hammocks and had a warm, calm sleep the hole night.
Except me, i heard about 4-5 woman got murdered loudly one by one in
the middle of the night.
Prob deer, my mate didn´t hear a thing :rolleyes:
Temps went from 17F to 25F over night.
We woke up, i copied shug and made breakfast from the hammock with the
Bios, my mate had to go up and fire up the Bushbuddy :)
We broke camp, hide the backpack´s and took a 1km stroll over the lake to get to the Geocache, we found it quick and easy.
We went back and grabbed our backpack and headed back to the car, picking up a second geocache on the way.
Issues = Some Condensation between Sleeping bag and pad.
Isoleted drinking tubes is a waste of money :)
All is warm and secure in sector 63.
