Would these work as Descender Rings?

They're from EMS. They only give the size on one of them and it seems to be a little big. What's the diameter on the one's sold by REI? Is there an ideal size for one inch webbing and is the size really critical. Can you use different width webbing with the same set of descenders or is there a suggested size/ratio?

The REI rings are 1.5". I use 1" webbing with these rings.

Hmmm...I just clicked on the site and it didn't take me to the rings. If anyone is feeling ambitious you could do a search on the site for Rapelling rings or desender rings.

I just went back and looked it up. The specs on the one ring are 1.375" inner diameter and 2.125" outer diameter. They're pretty beefy.

Are your measurements inner or outer?

The ones at REI are measured for inner. (from memory)

Wow. That's a pretty thick ring. It would be very heavy.

Yeah, but that's for the steel rings that weigh 3 oz. each. There is also an aluminum ring weighing 1.1 ounce but no sizes are given. Based on the picture the thickness of the ring is about 1/3 of the inside diameter. So it's probably only about 1" ID which is too small for 1" strap. IMO

To adjust the tension on the straps that hold the hammock to the trees. They just make it quicker and easier to adjust. There have been several threads on the subject and I believe Jeff may have some pics and details on his site.
