I started with a Henessy myself and it did me a nice job. You can sell it later for something else if you would want to. You will need to use a pad for insulation and that can be a trip in a hennesy.

i had a henessy witch i just sold on here because im 6'2'' 210lb
and wasnt enough room nice hammock though.
my wife used it and she about 5'3''. but now she wants a black bird
after i let her sleep in it. it has a lot more room the shelf is nice the set up out of the bag is easier and the side entry with the zipper makes all the differance for me. if you do decide to get a hh get azipper mod done by 2questions and zq and a better tarp than the one that comes with it .for the money i would get a bb $170 and a good 11x10 tarp so there wont be any questions about coverage.
then a underquilt and a top quilt ect ect welcome to your new addition.
Is there any way you can make it to a "hang" in your area? I just went to the Texas fall hang and learned more in one weekend than I could have in months of research.
The People on here are wonderful as resources .... not like many other forums you may have visited.
If not ... then if your goal is to stay cheap to "figure it out", then I'd go the DIY route to start, if I were to do it again, that is.
10 ft of 5 ft wide 1.9 ounce nylon with a simple overhand knot in each end (Joanne fabrics or Walmart bargin bin if your lucky) and a pair of ratchet straps with the ratchet removed, 4 SMC decending rings from REI (makes it a no brainer to set up your hammock), some closed cell foam, a tarp of some sort, some tree straps, and your normal sleeping bag can take you a long way.
Headchange4U has a great post on a Hennessy clone that is super easy to make, Risk's web site has a great Test Hammock, Just Jeff has a great site, and there are really too many more to mention here .... this is a really innovative bunch.
Then get out and hike with other Hammockers to see other setups before you dig out your wallet.
well im on my way to the hobby lobby to pick up some fabric. i am going to try to do it my self. i will post some pics of my journey and you guys can bash on how bad i am.
