Hello, all
I'm just getting started with hammocking, and I'm looking for a suspension system that works well, and is easy. Basically, right now I'm looking at whoopie slings with tree straps and dutch clips. My problem is figuring out how to connect the descender rings to a loop on the webbing, and the descender rings to the slings. Could I substitute the descended ring for a carabiner? If so, would the stock ENO carabiner work or would I need something stronger?

You certainly can connect the whoopies via a carabiner to the webbing.Quote:

Many that use the system you are interested in connect the whoopie slings to the webbing via a marlin spike hitch and toggle. Its very easy make and easy to undo and allows you to use as much or as little webbing necessary. Check out Grizz's videos: a brief primer on hammock suspension parts 1 to 3 in the suspension forum.
If you're using Whoopie slings with DC's and tree straps, you really don't need a descender ring or a 'biner...
Use a toggle with a Marlin Spike hitch to attach your WS to the tree strap.
You will need a loop on your tree strap for the dutch clip, though. I like my DC's, but you can just feed the strap through the loop around the tree and then the only hardware you would need is a toggle...

Larkshead the rings together, then feed the webbing thru. If your going to use rings.
If your using whoopies, you can skip the rings and use a toggle/marlinspike hitch on the webbing.
one approach:
make the WS or have it made with a descender ring in the main adjustable loop (in place of the bead)
attach tree strap to descender ring with a girth hitch (looks like a larks head only done in strapping)

I've never used whoopies, so I can't comment on them. I use descender rings and cinch buckles with webbing straps. I find this system very simple to use. Here are some pictures of both. The rings are on my Trek Light hammock which is very similar to your ENO. I just larks headed them to the stock end cords. The cinch buckle is on my WB Traveler. I have since changed out the rings on the TL to cinch buckles from AHE. Switching this out was very simple with Paul's cinch buckle & chain link set. Hope this info helps you.
