response #2
I weigh 210 lbs. and I caught the multiple references to using darts. It was something I had planned to use.
As for the layers of Insultex being compressed when inserted into the hammock: that is the reason for creating a gap between the two layers of the hammock. ;)
Thanks!

It will probably stop stretching at some point, but nylon is rather high-memory even in fabric...so it'll stretch while you're in it and then pop back a bit when you get out. That will make the measurements and predictions hard.
The harder problem for calculating this project is that the stretch won't be uniform. It'll stretch a lot more under your butt than along the legs, for example. I'd put bigger darts around the waist area.
At the end of the day, this isn't rocket surgery...you can guestimate and then go from there. Just have realistic expectations...consider the first model a prototype and don't expect to get it right. It's more like cloth carpentry..."close enough" is good enough to get you through a season (or at least several trips), and then you'll have enough solid improvements in mind for a much better Prototype.v2.

Excellent advice from a veteran experimenter. I appreciate the insight.
I was a "carpenter" for a while once, so I know all about "close enough" and wood putty! ;)

Close enough and wood putty is a lot easier to calculate. It's one of my favorite methods of solving problems. :)
