Henry Coe (California)
Hey Cali hangers,
If you have the time and the dime, a small group of folks I've met along the way and myself will be heading to Henry Coe State Park - near Morgan Hill, south of the Bay Area - this weekend Friday - Sunday.
Due to the unique nature of the permitting we can take last minute joiners - this is a low elevation park with lots of ridges and scattered pine/oak trees, some madrone, plenty of opportunity to hang (tenters bemoan the minimal flat spaces in fact) The wildflowers should be blooming. Weather looks pretty good according to NOAA.
Email me for more info or visit the page (coepark.org) - I will be at park headquarters at 9 am Friday, with my Gossamer Gear pack and Warbonnet Blackbird. I will be accompanied by a variety of light and heavy packers.
We can hang food to keep it out of rodent jaws. Some of use are probably taking bear cans just because they like the ease of use.
I am crossing my fingers - earlier this spring dayhiking near the park, I saw a herd of Tule Elk. More likely to see a lot of turkeys and maybe some wild pigs, tho.

hey lori don't think I will make it this weekend, a lot going on. if anything changes I will let you know thursday night.
-
Hey, would be there in a flash but have a previous commitment (that will result in a trip report - weather permitting!)
-
I'm in. I've was planning on making a trip up to Henry W. Coe this weekend anyways!
How much travel would be involved to get to your campsite? A friend is interested in joining up, but he has rheumatoid arthritis and can't do very long hikes.

lori told me she was planning on 5-7 miles a day. I still might make it also, I am holding out hope for permission from the wife.

Sounds like you'll be up by headquarters. I'll be hiking Hunting Hollow->Wilson Camp->Pacheco Falls/Camp->Kelly Lake this weekend with my Scout Troop. We were going to hike from Hunting Hollow to Dowdy Ranch but the Dowdy Ranch exit is closed according to the website.
Just out of curiosity are you headed towards Poverty Flat/China Hole or Frog Lake?
-
We haven't decided where we will go yet, but Skeels Meadow or Los Cruzeros are both possible first night choices.
I'm probably going to leave a note for latecomers on the dash of my car - the white Mazda 3 with the meetup logo next to the note.

Have a great weekend there--wish I could join you. Its great wild country, in and out of the park, and all the way to the Valley.
