On the 11 X 11 Guide Gear Tarp, how many tie out loops does it have? Specifically are there any loops other than those along the edge? If so, where? Pics would help.

Here are some pics of the 8.5x8.5 it the 11x11 is basically the same.
Since these do not have a cat cut, I like to pull the slack to the head or foot end to get the "slack out. This makes the other side "extra flappy", so then I put a toggle through the 2 of the loops on the other side. This makes it a lot less "flappy" and creates a little cocoon effect that channels wind and rain away from you.The pictures show it better than I can explain.
You can also center up your stakes and "batten down the hatches" on both sides.
The tie outs are too low to be effective on the 8.5x, but the 11x is up a little higher. They could both stand to be higher up on the tarp though. Still, I am happy with it for the price
It is now seam sealed and dry as a bone in 10-20 mph wind and rain. Still no real world test with a hammock, but it has been up all week, besides when the seam seal was drying.

This is a drawing of pre fiasco Guide Gear 12 x 12.
I assume the layout is the same.
There are also two side pull outs per side which are not shown.
They are located near the doors similar to the Kelty
Looks like they are a gray color now verus the whiteish/green they were about 4 years ago when I got mine.Quote:

I have the Guide Gear® Emergency Shelter....it is 14 x 11 1/2 had it about a year.....been a good one so far!.....for the price...can't beat it as big as it is....it even is "Cat"cut on the sides.
that thing is HUGH.....dumped the poles and cut the bag in half.....weighs less than 2lb
@halfastronomical are you doing the Hammock 101 classes in the Park??? We camp over there a good bit.

I left this thing up again through the storms yesterday...
I was initially worried while I was at work, because I slept out there the night before, and got up late, and then left my hammock/UQ/TQ/pillow out there too. This was under the 8.5x8.5, which is a bit short for the kind of storm that we had. When I got home, my anemometer said that the wind was 21 mph sustained and 35 mph gusts, with 2 inches of rain in 2 hours. I went out and shot a video after that, while the wind was about 11mph. ( i will upload it when I have time)
1.The prusiks slipped before the tarp or stakes failed, because I was experimenting with different cord. I had zing-it prusiks on "Chuck it" Throw line that I found very cheap. It only slipped a few inches, but still...This flawed my testing a bit, but the tarp performed well and was not very flappy considering the weather and the ridgeline sagging a little. It did not leak and my hammock/uq/tq were all dry!
2.I had it in a soggy place too, so the groundhog stakes gave a little and one even bent about 20 degrees due to the high wind.
3.I did notice a couple of pinholes at the main pressure point on the ridgeline seam. It was very small and may be fixed with aquaseal (i love that stuff) It did not leak as far as I could tell, but I was not in there during the pouring rain and wind, so it may have leaked just a little.
4. I also made a little "y" shock cord/glowire guyline, to pull the tarp together at the foot end. This pulls out the "flappiness" of the tarp better than the stick toggle. You can get a firly tight pitch considering there is no cat-cut.
( pics later too)
Overall I think that I would trust these tarps now. and we may use them for the hammock camping/backpacking class that we are gonna do.
All of the prototype gear performed well and now that we found a decent cheap tarp, we may be able to get something started in the fall season. I am super excited.
This video just shows the 8.5x8.5 tarp after being battered by 21 mph sustained winds and 35 mph gusts, with 2 inches of rain in 2 hours. The pitch is not that tight because of prusik slippage, tent stake bending, but the tarp made it with minor "stretch marks" where the seam was stressed.
Everything was dry!
The wind was blowing about 11 mph during this video
A few photos from a few mornings ago. I went to sleep and it was raining and I woke up to a temp of @29 degrees. I am gonna set it up with a real ridgeline tomorrow and see how it does. The chuck-it line is not working very well with prusiks.
What's the weight on the 8.5?
