Kelty 9x9 or 12x12?
I recently became interested in the Kelty Noah's tarps. They seem a little hefty but the most I hang right now is when my family is out with the camper. I'm wondering what the coverage is corner to corner diagonally, and if the 9x9 will work if I get a longer hammock. Any help?

I had the 12 and it's huge. You can set it up in multiple ways and even close it up for inclement weather. Yes a bit heavy but a real workhorse. I think I've got a pic of it in my gallery in "winter" mode. I hope others will chime in on the 9.

I have the Guide Gear 12x12, and yeah, huge is the word. Corner to corner it's ~16.5'. I set it with a diamond pitch, and use it as a group shelter...we get 4-5 under it, along with a small fire in my little Weber.
When I pitched it over my hammock, I went with an offset rl, leaving a 4' "back wall" and an 8x12 "porch". Ginormous.

Since weight isn't an issue, you could also look at the chinook tarps. Some other members on here have them and seem to like them a lot. Price range would be about the same.

The Noah 9 can only be hung in diamond configuration, but it has good coverage. I have one and have had no problem with coverage.

I purchased the 12 found it was a good tarp, well made, tried it out in a torrential down pour, and it has possibilities to be a pretty good winter tarp. However it did have a small leak. Kelty replaced it because they wanted to test the 12 and see what the problem was. The leak was small seepage along a seam.
I traded it for a 9 and have had it out in a few pretty good rains, snugged down it worked fine, with it's 13'+ ridgeline it should keep you dry in most rains.
Car camping either should be fine, backpacking, I want lighter and less volume.

For base camping the 12 is a good choice, especially in the palatial porch mode set-up. And as Syb said a decent tarp for winter set-up.

Found it. My 12 in hunker-down mode. I had plent of room under it as well.

Nice Syd, I haven't had mine in that configuration yet. Looks sweet.
Also, the 12 is great for hanging over two hammocks. :)

Syb, I would imagine at some point, condensation would be an issue. You appear to have top and bottom ventilation. Was that adequate? Any moisture issues?
