New guy here from VA
Hello all, I just discovered this site. I am a member over at white blaze.net and thought I would stop in and check this hammock craze out.
I have just discovered a love for backpacking/hiking and really don't know much about the whole hammock thing. I have been buying gear, used and new, as I hope to start doing some serious camping.
I must say I really like the way the hammock thing looks, I mean it looks like it would be very comfortable and dry. I hope to learn a lot here and maybe one day contribute to the group. I look forward to meeting everyone, thanks for having me.

Howdy from Texas. You will love hammock hanging once you try it. Once i tried it, I vowed never to sleep on the ground again if I could help it.

Welcome from another (albeit imported) Virginian. You'll love hanging. It's like camping, except with comfort!

Welcome Scott!
Before buying a bunch of gear in the search of what is right for you, I suggest going to a hang somewhere near by and taking a gander at some of the hammocks your friends here have.
I know there is the 7th Annual Mount Rogers Hang next month and even if you just went for the day, you could probably get some good advice. I'm not sure how close that is to you since I consider anything above I10 the North.

Welcome from Denver! In addition to the other good suggestions for learning (Shug's videos and group hangs), I also highly recommend dehoja's book The Ultimate Hang. Perfect balance of information and ease of reading. And, there's a ton of VERY well done instructional pictures.
