Samsung 8.9 tablet... works great AND no umbilical cord to iTunes...

perhaps Old Gringo, its a conspiracy to keep you @ home????
Apple Tech says it's a software problem, which they will fix for $60. I'm calling bs, at least for now. Time for a road trip for me and my Pad...lookin' for a hot spot...
Sounds like the service charge minimum for a cache clear (or Debit Card lightening.)
Just think about Apple Tech response next time you're cold. Your feelings about it about should be good for 5-10F of warmth, but not the kind that makes you drowsy.

It may be time for a new router. Works a treat, here in town.
If you can load other pages via WiFi using the router, I still think it's a DNS issue. You might try changing the settings in your router to use DNS servers other than provided by your ISP. I suggest OpenDNS. That's likely to fix the issue with no replacement on your part.
OpenDNS Servers - 208.67.222.222, 208.67.220.220
Even if it were a software problem, you could fix it yourself by doing a 'Restore to Factory Defaults'. Plug the iPad up to your computer (which runs iTunes) and follow the Backup/Restore to defaults procedure.
(This all assumes that an actual power-down of the iPad, router, cable/dsl modem doesn't fix the issue.)
Might try is powering down the router and then powering it back up. I have a Linksys one that wigs out every now and then and that fixes it.
Also, you might try turning off the iPad by holding the power button down and then powering it back up. Mine looses the wifi connection sometimes and that corrects it. Just putting it to sleep does not. I've even turned off the wifi in Settings and turned the wifi back on and had the connection come back.
I thought they used smoke signals down your way
Thanks to all for your help. We've tried everything that has been suggested, to no avail. It's beginning to look like my satellite ISP is the culprit. There were some mutterings about "security protocols"... Just one of the bennies of living in BFE. <shrug>
