Was wondering if there is a problem with just running the strap through the loop to hold it around the tree and not using any clips or carabiners at all?
May wear the strap a little quicker not sure.

It's worked just fine for me so far.

Hey Jason in Tn,
That will work fine...just use a Marlinspike Hitch to attach your hammock.
nope. thats what i usually do.
certainly works.
if you need to move the strap up or down the tree for some reason
after its set... it could be problematic if there is a branch or something.
mostly the dutch clip or biner is for convenience - like in the case above.
That is what I have been doing was not sure if I had it right. Been using toggle and whoopies to attach hammock.

Works just fine, that's what I do.
Using hardware just makes set up and adjustment a little easier but it's certainly not necessary.
Hardware is handy if you want to leave your straps attached to your hammock. On large trees it's also handy to have a little weight on the end for swinging it around.
That's the only way I've ever used.
