That's the system I've used and am using and it has worked great for me.
I do like the titanium biner addition though!
Way to go Sarge!
I'm not totally sold on the tube.
I keep the tube tied very much the same way with the line and rock bag and it sits fine (so far - **** jinx)!
Maybe something that was a little fat on the ends, like a NiteIze bone knot thing. That way it wouldn't slip out of the hitch as you raised it?
Always teaching us Rock-thanks!
Only problem I'd see for me is holding 4-5 days food weight as you thread through the hole in the little pvc tube...does it try to cut through the skin on your hand?
Well what I do when I haul one up is I use a marlin spike as a pull point and walk with it until it gets high enough, then I step on the spike while I get a new position on the cord. But doing some thinking after this discussion and playing with some other hardware here at the house I've got an even better idea than the tube that I plan to try in the daylight tomorrow and if it works will save all sorts of hassle. If it works I'll post it. And if it works, it is impossibly simple.
This works well. Ever since Josh demonstrated this same tube with the hole in it technique in early 2010 and I've been using it since. I keep the PVC tube on the bear line so I don't lose it.
