just getting started
Hey all! So this site has been very helpfull to me. And i think I'm finally ready. I'm going with the WBBB 1.1 double and I'm stoked about it! Considering I'm a first time hanger I do have a few questions. One is about the suspension. Which suspension, webbing or the strap? Eventually I will upgrade to the whoopie, but for now that will have to do. My other question is about the tarp. I would like the Edge but they are on backorder and I'm anxious. I'm a little tight for cash and thats the cheapest one. I live in washington and its rains quite often so a tarp is ideal. So what do you think? I'll take any info on any thing. Thanks

I like the regular straps... They are real simple and quick to setup. I though I would immediately switch to whoopies but haven't yet.
On the tarp, you have a couple options.
The Edge will be lighter and slightly cheaper, but will have less coverage.
The Superfly will weigh and cost more, but the coverage of the tarp is much better.
Having lived in the PNW, I would recommend the SF and coverage. It will get you into more seasons, will protect you better from the wind, and there is nothing like watching the rain come down while you are relaxing in the hammock and the tarp is in porch mode.
P.s. welcome to the forums

thanks TallPaul. I just about ordered the Edge but you might have changed my mind. What do you think about the Mamajamba? Its just as big but a little cheaper. Cause the SF and the Edge are both on backorder

If you are going the size of the MambaJamba, my opinion is you might as well go to the Superfly. The doors make a big difference for protection.
But with all that said... Probably the next tarp I get will be a smaller one like the Edge for use during the summer. I think having an Edge paired with a SF would be the best of all worlds.

Well, Im sold then. Thanks a lot for the help.

I hope we get to see pics of whatever you end up with. Something with Ranier or Mt Olympus in the background :)

+1 on superfly way to go.

The adjustable webbing is (I think anyway) the easiest suspension to deal with.
As far as the tarp goes.
The Superfly is absolutely the best tarp for you money. It's great all round coverage and light enough to backpack with.
If you don't need full coverage, get a Tadpole from Wilderness Logics. They are awesome and a bit cheaper than some other comparable tarps. Plus..they are almost half the weight of the SF.

Adjustable webbing is easy to use. I have the edge over my bb and love it. Plenty of coverage without wasting weight. That said, I'm sure next year or so I will pick up a superfly as a winter tarp. But even the I think the edge will get most of the trips just because of the weight.

I also recommend the webbing. Easier to adjust. I also reommend the SF for 4 season use. Have fun!
