Hey everyone!
I'm completely new to the hammock world and am trying to gather some info on the best and cheapest setup for a thru-hike. I just bought a grand trunk ripstop ultralite basically for practice since it was only $14.98 + shipping. I really need a setup that's gonna last for about 5 months and one that also warm and comfy. What is a realistic price for that? Is there any way of keeping that under $200? What is everyone's opinion?

Sure, you can keep it under $200, especially if you use existing gear from ground-dwelling days (ala sleeping bag and pad) and just put them in your hammock under a tarp.
Now, if you want super light materials (cuben tarp) or really nice UQ, you're going to go above $200.

I would probably go with something like:
Hammock: BIAS Weight Weenie: $50 and 8 oz.
HUG Bug Net from Arrowhead Equipment: $35 and 5 oz.
Suspension: DIY - maybe $20-30 bucks in materials (or just buy a suspension setup from a place like DutchWareGear.com for a bit more $)
Tarp: Wilderness Logics Tadpole or Warbonnet Mamajamba: less than $100 and 10-13 oz.
Insulation: Use pad and sleeping bag
If you want to spend a little more, you'll need to spend another $300-400 for a decent underquilt and top quilt. Warbonnet Yeti or items from HammockGear - or buying used here on HammockForums, is a good way to go.

Peakhunter, a lot of what you'll be looking at will include Do It Yourself (DIY), so check up on that thread for ideas. You'll want to use a pad and get something with an integrated bug net.
If you're willing to go a little more, you might check on the Darien Hammock by Dream Hammock. It was designed with the UL hiker in mind.

You should for sure Check out Warbonnet Outdoors.
But a cost effective Solution is always based on user choice. For example you could get on Amazon.com and piece together an entire ENO System for 160.00 Bucks. But that Hammock may not work for you.
I suggest poking around on the forums and read gear reviews from other members. Ask questions and more questions. Then based on your research make a choice.
I have an ENO Doublenest with ENO ProFly Tarp and Bugnet. It is nice and works well for me however, I ordered a WBBB to better suite my needs for the future.
