A clove hitch, mebee, instead of toggle, etc.
Simple. Easy. Cheap. I'm trying it.
I have found that the hot weather here in the Central Valley causes rubber bands to deteriorate over time and then one day (as if by magic) melt all over my gear. Ranger bands, however, have yet to go all gooey on me. Plus you can cut them as wide or as thin as you like to get the amount of tension you want without multiple bands. Who knew an old bike tire could be so useful? :D
I've got it rigged more permanently, but I like your idea of being able to quickly swap out a different tensioner to adjust tension to conditions--time to get in the garage and start tinkering... again
Used the rubber bands over a 4 day hang weekend and was very happy with the result. Never had to manually tighten the tarp. Nice use of on hand materials. Thanks!
Thats one good thing.
Ill get some to morrow.
I do a similar thing but I use the cheap hair ties
They are $1 or so for 10 -20 in a pack
they do break after a while but they are cheap and easy to use
I larks head them on to my tarp
