It was a great time! It was really nice to meet everyone out there. Thanks to Flackfizer for getting this trip planned and especially for the forethought to drop a water cache. It sure made life easier on us at the camp. I hope to see everyone out at the next trip, and certainly looking forward to seeing the pictures from this one. Thanks again, to everyone that came out there, for making this such a good time!
Yeah definitely a great time. Thanks FLB for picking me up, even though you took out my other ankle with your walking stick10 minutes later. Thanks Flackfizer for the water cache. Great to meet everyone. Grinder was definitely a great motivation. He left us in his dust most of the time, and Bearfinder for Hiking the hole trail bear foot with out a single complaint. Thanks COWBELL for scaring all the wildlife away on the trail. Looking forward to the next trip.
As usual for this crowd, and OUTSTANDING weekend. I was 32.6 degrees Friday night, so we have decided that Hammock Forum members in Florida can control the weather by causing record lows to coincide with our hangs!
We had a great bunch of people, lots of laughter and lots of exercise. Little Felix shamed us all by hiking the whole weekend BAREFOOT! I wish I was half the man he is :crying
OK, here is what everyone is waiting for ... pictures!
Thanks for the group pics Mike. Can't wait to see some of Islanders videos also.
Looks like everyone had a great time! I could have told you Bearfinder would put you all to shame. He's one amazing kid!
Glad everyone made it through okay. Thanks for the pix.
So Bearfinder went barefoot?!? Wasn't he sick just a day or two ago? I guess he got better...
:)
Glad you all had a good time. What great weather even with the Fla low temp. Pics look great . Can't wait to see more of the pics that will post! And Bearfinder getting close to nature the bearfoot way!
Been home for a bit and took a nap. After everyone left Bearfinder and I poked around the cyrpus swamp to look for nice poles for carving. We found a small harvest and he was thrilled. What a great time everyone. Thanks to one and all. We are really looking forward to the next great event. I will post videos when I am done editing. Thanks again!
Fantastic weekend everyone! I had a very good time, plus - minus a few extra long miles for me. All is well with me after a hot shower and a nap.
Always good to get out in the Piney Cyprus Woods with some of my Hammock Hanging friends. Much appreciated to all and also to Flackfizer for the extra water cache at the end of a long day.
Rendering video as I type this, Trip reporting video soon to follow.
I can't wait to get together again soon...

Late night upload...;)
Flackfizer, thanks for the great pics of the beautiful cypress and the video.
Islander, what a great idea of the "walking video" that captured the essence of the weekend.
Thanks to both of you for staying up late, even though tired, so you could post these in time for me to wake up, realize they were there, and make myself late for work while watching them  Seriously, thanks for the extra effort!
Enough can't be said to thank Flackfizer for showing up early to place a water cache near our Saturday night camp site. That water re-hydrated a bunch of tired, thirsty hikers just like a Mountain House meal!
I, too. wish to thanks the movers and shakers who made this happen. Islander and Flackfizer, that I know about and any others I may be unaware of contributing. the water was a godsend!!
The two recent Florida campouts fulfill a dream I've had for years of camping out in the swamps close to home. I never could quite overcome the inertia that resisted doing it by myself.
Loaded hiking (with back pack carrying everything you need) is extremely physical. It may be slightly like childbirth, in that it's always a surprise how hard it seems when I first go back out. (apologies to the women, because I know there's really no comparison. I watched my three daughter escape the womb).
As some of you know, I'm going hiking on the AT for a month or so next month. I am now redoubling my training efforts.
Anyway, thanks.
Have no illusions, Grinder & olddog were setting the pace. The rest of us were tracking their footprints!
That's a fact. The "Old-Guys" kicking our butt all over the trails, saying "catch-up-if-you-can" type hiking :scared: They fly on the trail.
Unrelated--but, the Backwoods Boiler came today! ReeHee! Gonna test it out tonight!
Might have been fast on the trail but a lot slower today!
I think were all moving a little slower today. It always seems to take a few days to catch up with you:)
Nice to see everyone hanging in those southern climes. Love those trees with the wide trunks. Seeing people in shorts and bare feet was tough tho. Glad you all had a good time.

What tarp?
One of the three guys from Orlando had a huge condominium of a tarp. What brand and size was it??
Could it have been the Guide Gear 12x12 by any chance
TIA
That was mine Grinder, its an Equinox Globe Skimmer Ultralight 10x12 tarp. Great tarp for cold and heavy rain weather. Its grommets allow you to fold the ends toward the center and have doors that overlap each other. Not exactly the lightest tarp in the world. I gotta get something a bit lighter/smaller for more pleasant weather.
Nice vids guys.
Can't believe that crazy boy was road walking barefoot!
Love the videos fellas. I think Bearfinder has grown since January!
We registered Bearfinder as his own HF member. He just started doing his own bushcraft woods videos--we made the intro the other day and he is pretty psyched. He walks barefoot at home all the time--so that means the road, almost any where we go, riding his bike, and all manner of hikes. He is gearing up to to 200-300 miles on the AT with no shoes on.
The AT sans shoes? Braver than I. :)
Looks like you guys had a great time. It is good to see the pictures and videos. Thanks for posting them.
Feeling a lot less sorer today. Working on drying out 4 spots of poison ivy. Thinking to myself that it might be time to start planning the next and Flackfizer is on the 2nd Annual Florida Hang. Great!
I'm glad i didn't get poison ivy. Heck I lucked out, I don't think I even got so much as a bug bite. Hope you Get it cleared up soon.
From the pics ya'll posted, it was all around you. That was one of the first thing I saw on the trail pics. Course I have to hone in the stuff since I am sort of alergic to it. If I am 50 feet near it, I'm going to have a rash! Bummer Old dog got it. Hope it dries up quickly fer ya!
I didn't experience any PI problems. And I was into all kinds of off-trail areas.
Glad it didn't find me...
Yeah it was every where. Kind of expected it especially when I saw some beginning to bloom. Not my first time, probably not my last, with PI. I have an old traditional remedy that works for me. Oatmeal poltice held on location with guaze and ace bandage overnight. Seems to dry it out. Luckily was just calf of left leg. Should be gone in the morning.
Sorry to hear about your misfortune, olddog.
Poison Ivy and general stickers is why I hike in long pants, year round. I use some super lightweight nylon ones.
Just one of lifes little inconviences. Put up with for as long as I can remember. Had a brother who was immune or something. The only time he ever had PI was after we had to sleep togeather at a relatives once, he cussed me for a week.
I absolutely suck at identifying PI. :(
If it has 3 leaves I leave it be just to be safe. :)
Wasn't that also the part of your leg that was cramping on Saturday night Olddog?
No, cramps were inside the left thigh. Your not jerking my string are you? A few more trips like the last and I should have all the kinks worked out.
No Wasn't messing with you i just wondered if it was the same place cause I was thinking when you were rubbing it you could have spread the PI then. Just a thought, I stayed behind you for the second half and didn't get it. Come to thing of it though I don't remember ever having an issue with it so maybe I'm one of the lucky immune ones. And as for messing with you I think I was the only one that fell down, or at least the only one to admit it:laugh:
