I wonder if there's a pipe diameter that is a tight fit inside the fence rail... a section bolted in on each side should be as strong as the swaged ends...

Okay, I had to try the 2x2 stand, and it just keeps falling over on me. Well I tried at least.

It held my daughter, and then me! I am checking in at 319#. But it just wasn't stable enough.
So I managed to acquire some 1x1 16 gauge aluminum tubes. And I made another one. Man is it light, and strong.

Yep, it even held my big but, and it feels pretty sturdy. I think some camping is in order for this setup!
Thought I'd show my XL ridge pole.
I took two 10'ers and cut them 6' and 4' and 7' and 3', with the short pieces having the swaged ends. So I can do a variety of lengths. This setup is the 6' in between the 3' and the 4', making 13'. With my XL gathered end, it's a perfect fit and I have room for my biggest tarp.

Correction. 13' is not quite long enough for my longest tarp! I can switch the 6' for the 7' and make it work though! I forgot how long that sucker is... At 13', the MacCat works great with a standard hammock.
Hey hppyfngy, your yard is starting to look like a variation of Stonehenge!
Bundy71 is that your second? Or maybe third? I believe this is the first metal tripod TurtleDog!
Hpyfngy is the TurtleDog Master!
I'll tell you what, that last stand is 80" tall (leg length.) With the 13' pole and the 11' hammock it's the most comfortable thing I've been in. :boggle:
Gotta stop giving these things away though. It's getting expensive! :)
