OK... but we won't tell anyone (outside of this forum) that you're wanting to run out to joann's fabric just for something to do:D :p

Well, I know I said I was making a hammock sock next but I lied. I am making an 8x10 tarp out of some 100% polyester i found in brown at walmart. I actually finished all the seams tonite and am starting to sew on the tie outs tomorrow. A hammock sock is definitely next, I also have a few ideas for an underquilt.
I am still a beginner and my seams are wobbly at best but getting better. It may not be pretty but I know this tarp will be functional.
This is my 3rd tarp. The first one pissed me off after I was 80% finished and I trashed it... vowing to never sew again.... seriously peed me off.
My second was ok but had alot of mistakes and I ended up using the fabric to make a hammock for my daughter (it was all DWR).
My biggest hurdle learning to sew was actually getting the machine setup and going. Now I can fill the bobbin, thread the needle, and be sewing in minutes.
I will definitely post pics when I am finished with this one. I am kinda proud of it.
It's funny to watch others go through the same things.
One of my first projects was a BlackCat; oh man was it a disaster. I ended up throwing a huge 'fit' in my living room; trying to tear the sil into pieces. When that didn't work, well it kind of looked like one of those slasher movies from the 80s. If a person in the field of mental health would have been there I'm certain I would have been Baker Acted. It's funny now, but I was surely pissed then. Second version was/is a useable piece of gear, but it was only after making A LOT of stuff sacks. It gets better, I promise.
Machine set-up was certainly a challenge! I bought a really old machine and the only manual I could find online had pics that were just barely legible (very fuzzy). I felt like a 2 year old trying to tie my shoelaces as I was trying to run the thread through the machine. Still don't know why there have to be so many stupid **** hooks, clips, and springs to make a silly line of stitching. :D
