About 14-16" of snow fell on Roan Mountain during the weather event that followed Hurricane Sandy. So it made for the first winter play ground of the season! One of my long time paddling buddies Steve and I set out early and even with a long break for lunch at the Roan High Knob Shelter, (elevation 5,826') we were back at the car by 2:30. It was a great day and I ended it of course with a long late afternoon nap in my hammock with my new Warbonnet Multicam Hammock Sock on it. :thumbup1:

Nice video, thanks for sharing. Brings back memories of my the hammock hang-out there a couple of years ago except we had about 40 mph wind.

Nice! Ive been there many times since its like 45 min. from my house to Carvers Gap. I usually go up the other side on the balds though...much better view from over there. Funny you mention the Applehouse shelter being closed. I was there a couple of months ago hiking in from 19 and had no idea what happened to it. I don't stay in shelters anyway but they are nice landmarks. Although I actually did sleep in the Roan High Knob shelter once in the 90's. Happy Hiking!

Enjoyed your video. Looks like a great time. Walking thru the woods with snow on the ground gives such a peaceful feeling all around.

Feels good seeing the snow. Nice that you got out there. Been pretty warm here, daytime high's about 45-48F but a deep cold trough is droppin in about a week. Going down to -15C/5F with snow so it will be powder city.(-;
Thanks LD
