ViDEO: PART 2 Linville Gorge 2012 with the Hickery Brothers
Our trip saga continues........ we wake at Red North Hickery Camp and explore some water. Then down Brushy Ridge Trail to cross the Linville River. Hickery broke a hiking pole and the river gave one back to him!!!!
Off to the other side and camp at Bynum Bluff. Morning comes and we hike up and to the Marion Wright Trail back to Linville Fall. Get some cool mountain spring water and meet up wit Stormcrow plus 2.
All secure in sector seven,
Shug

I always went along to some of his Church functions growing up in Charlotte. His was in Mt. Holly. As a Catholic....his church had a better selection of gals our age in those days. (1972-76)

I felt sympathetic scratches on my arms and legs watching you go on that overgrown trail in shorts and no-sleeves!
That Hickory, he's kinda hard on gear, ya think? Mora knife busted in part 1, hiking pole in part 2, waiting for the camp stool to fold next :scared:
You're really blessed to have a bosum-buddy from way-back with whom you head out into the woods for a week (and blessed to have a wife that supports that).

Hi Shug,
Great trip report as always. Off-track hiking is the best. It always put's a smile on my face when I leave the tracks, sometimes can be a challenge but you usually get the whole place to yourself.

You speak truth having an old friend to do this with. We have known each other over 40 years we figured.
Meg gives me carte blanche))))) I am fortunate I agree.
You got to get there someday.

Wish we could have met up!!!! Dang.
We laughed at CYFFH?....good use of a wood-burner.
It was a nice calm snake and we saw the trail marker whilst standing in "his with no shoulders" company.

Thanks for the videos. I grew up in Asheville and have hiked Linville and Pisgah area a lot as a kid. I didn't really appreciate the beauty there until after I left. I just figured everywhere looked like that.
Making me really excited for my AT sectional hike this October with 5 of my brothers!

Nice installment of vid #2. Gettin' lost in the woods! Enjoyed it. Also notice Shug that your Carolinian accent gets thicker hanging around your brother! I lose mine here in Fla. hanging around the Northerners and get it back when I get back up to VA.

Man I sure do love Linville Gorge! I was so great seeing you and Hickory again my friend. The little Crows (a.k.a. Sam and Emma) really loved hiking with you guys. Climbing out of Devils hole broke their little hearts! I had to keep talking to them and letting them know that they were "almost there"...lol. They had lots of fun making fires in the Bush Buddy and Emberlit stoves. Thanks to you and Hickory for showing us some great views off of the Jonas Ridge trail. We are looking forward to being out there again in a couple of weeks.

I didn't know Hickery had such a set of lungs like we saw in Part 1. Holden out on us.
You probably know that serpent was a good ol black snake, aka Black Rat Snake, but in case no one has said, I'm pretty sure the orange flowered shrub is Flaming Azalea.
Great to watch! Looking forward to part 3.

Another great video Shug! I would love to hike with you two nuts but I think it would be too hazardous. Just been out in the kayak and doing a hang. I woke up this morning and decided to get me a couple of new hammock pillows to try out. The one I’ve got is letting the team down a bit. Anyway, I sat down here and while watching your video, I saw a pillow with my name on it. I’ll get me one of them, thanks! You had all kinds of interesting things happening from bugs to bear bags. You even had hiking pole eating creeks. I like that Linville Gorge, can you post it over to me? Nice snake, looked like a rubber tube! I don’t like the sound of that full body massage. Thanks for the tour of the Gorge, Mr Shug! Of course, now I want a few more parts, so fire up your editor and get editing!

Wow. I am psyched. I use to live in MD just five minutes from Catoctin Mountains. Hiked 3 or 4 days every week. now I live near Savannah GA and I was thinking the nearest non-flat hiking spots were at least four hours away. Linville is only 90 minufes from me.. I'm starting to plan my trip right now.. What a great looking hike..!

Cool.....I got a feeling Linville Gorge is a fair bit over 90 minutes.....more like 5 hours plus. Still worth the jaunt.
Maybe there is a Linville, GA.
I love the town of Savannah and want to go for a long weekend with my wife. You lucky to live so close by.
