7x10 tarp questions
I went to start making my sons tarp last night and I realized my sil is only 42 inches wide. I was planning on making it 8 ft wide but now I have to make it 7ft. I was planning on making it like the Spear winter tarp but I'm not sure now that I loose 6" per side. Do you think It will still cover enough with the cat cuts?
It felt strange laying all the fabric out, I have not made anything since I made my 12x10 tarp. I think it burned me out but I only have a few weeks before we need it so I need to start sewing again.
I'm also looking to make a bridge hammock, but that can wait.

How steep of a cat cut are you looking to make? Even if you have a 4"-5" cut, that should still be enough material for decent hammock coverage on the sides, although not a huge amount.
Be careful about how much material goes into the seam and any side trimming, and it should work out fine.
Also, when in doubt, make a painters-cloth model and check for yourself! Nothing beats using $.25 a yard material before using the $6 a yard stuff.

painter's cloth eh? i'll have to check it out, i sometimes use 1$/yd flannel from wm or whatever i can find, flannel sucks though.
i would say though, forty whatever inches will make a wide tarp, but for something that will be fully closeable, i would just buy 65" sil 2nds. i almost wish i could get it wider than that because even at 65", you have to make it a pretty steep pitch to have enough height, width, and still touch the ground. you could always use 3 pieces instead of 2, this would make it considerably wider than you are planning, you could just use 1/2" ggr in the middle of the panel for the actual ridgeline.
