Looks like a really nice trip - Great pics! I too enjoy taking a moment to check out the critters when they show up.
Hey, I like the hiking pole idea for the tarp pull-outs. I've often thought about trying this with some trail sticks (small saplings) to take advantage of their springiness. Gonna hafta try it . . .

Man, I don't eat that good at home!
Great report!
What temperature gauge is that? It says acurite, but I can't find a model that looks like it.
Nevermind I think it is this one, right?

Thanks for the kind words everyone!
Yup! I love this thing more than any other cookware I own. Worth the extra weight if you ask me. Lots of room, and has a bail. Boiling 1 or 2 cups of water doesn't cut it for someone as thirsty as I. :D
Thank you very much. I use a Canon S100.
Yes, it made his tarp soo much more luxurious. A small sapling would be perfect I think. Wonder why I never think of this stuff.
Yes, that's the one in your link. I got it at Walmart for $6 or so, then rip off the suction cup.
backpacking with canvas and leather bags? why? how did they hold up anyway?
Great pics! Loved the ones of the bugs.
I'm more into bushcrafting, these types of materials better suite my style and more field repairable imo. I try to explore all types of gear, and pick what makes me happy. If you go through my threads, you'll see that I try and use all types of gear, from ultralight, to ultra heavy. If there was a practical way to bring along a 14'' dutch oven, you can bet I'd bring it with me. lol
Why? Because I can. :D
They held up fine, I'm confident these Frost River packs will outlast any other pack I have. Will a super heavy backpack always be my choice? Heck no! But theres something about these old fashioned pieces of gear, that really appeal to me.
