The votes from southerners like myself may be meaningless. The written word does not always have a direct correlation with the spoken word.
For example, I pronounce pen and pin the same.
With no intended humor they were always referred to as "a stick pin" or "an ink pen".
No telling what we mean when we say we pronounce it ham ick or ham ock.
For that matter, no telling how many syllables we use.
I guess ham-uck is how I say it.
Hammick, hamick, or hamuck depending on my Tourettes syndrome at the moment.
Its 'Amuk round my way.
The queen would say " Hair-muck".
sides all dis... hammicfourems.net dont look rite
I'm going with ham-mik since my 'm' is a little on the long side.
In the south we don't pronounce anything else like the rest of the country, why should Hammock be different?
Fire=faar
Boil=bol
Foil=fol
I dont have the ear for it, but I love when people can pick out your exact part of the south from your dialect. I have even had my county pinned correctly. BTW where I'm from boil is pronounced ball not bol. As in I love balled peanuts.
