Look at a turtledog or turtlelady hammock stand in the DIY section.
Thanks to the both of ya...
Alamosa's stand would work as well, but i'll be starting a build tomorrow for a stand with a smaller footprint for smaller rooms...I'll post a new thread upon completion...
+1 on a turtlelady variant (I use a TurtleDog myself). They are easy to make, can be done with new materials for about $50, and are portable (if you have a small car then you might need to try one that can be broken down to smaller pieces or use a roof rack). The only drawback that I see is that they take up a lot of real estate in your house.
If you need something a bit more compact for a smaller room then you might want to look into a pipe stand. dejoha has a nice write-up with some links. There are several other stands out there and I recommend that you do some searching in the forum for them.
Good luck!
Dave
I often use the steel pipe stand design.
What’s Up Hammock Forum Dudes,
I saw this thread a few months ago and thought it was an awesome but expensive idea. None the less, I keep the idea in my back pocket until I had the opportunity to bring it to life. It took me a long time but I finally got everything I needed and got it up.
I had moved to Arizona about 4 months ago and it took me about 3 months to get all the tools and the help to get this up and usable. But it is up and it is very sturdy!!!! SHOUT OUT TO HF member “dejoha” for the great diagram that I followed!!!!! I included pictures of the setup as well as the Hammock itself. It is one of my camping/hiking hammocks (Warbonnet Blackbird 1.7). But throughout the changing seasons here in Arizona, I will switch out to more appropriate hammocks. :). ENJOY!!!!
Here's a little stand I've been working on over the Fall, but my project got put on the back burner for a while, I'm ironing out some details to make it easier to build and simplify the materials, etc.
It's made of 1 1/8" hardwood broom stick handles at your home center for about $6 each.
I wanted a portable stand that was suitable for indoor and occasional outdoor use. It knocks down easily and stores in a lawn chair bag with no tools needed.

Here is one that I've been using for over 20 months fulltime. Lucked out and got a freebies to repurpose but have seen new ones at WM for around $80.00. Used to be they could be found at yard sales and even sitting by the road but not in the current economics.
