i'm sending my HH down for mod #4 and am considering getting the velcro removed and the slit sewn closed.
can anyone think of a reason to keep the bottom entry with the zipper mod?

Makes getting into the hammock past the skeeters easier in the summer. If you have back problems it has helped some folks out ...
That said ... had mine removed but mainly because I have a KAQ fitted for it and I just quit using it.
Depending on the mobility problems it can be invaluable. It is the only way I can get out of a hammock. I might advise leaving it there if the need arises in the future. But that's not my call.
I had mine sewn shut because I had several problems with mine, (most annoyingly, my TQ and/or blanket/throw would get stuck in the slit and work its way out of the hammock throughout the night.
If you do not have any problems with the slit as-is, then leave it alone. It is great to have options especially when the skeeters are on the warpath.
I've never had a bottom entry hammock but I do have a tiny HH tarp and it would be nice to be able to pitch the tarp super-close to the hammock and get in from the bottom....
Another good reason to keep it is for those time you have condensation on the underside of your tarp. Nothing like getting up first thing in the morning to stand up and get a wet head.
2nd this when using the asym tarp. i also use the SS and sometimes i prefer the bottom entry even though i have the mod2. helps with bugs as well. if it's not bothering you and the velrco is still in good working order i'd leave it, it's easy to sew shut than to reinstall again.
If it doesn't bother you I would leave it as is, my increase the resale value if the time comes as well. Or you could use it for a few nights after the Mod 4 and determine if you want to keep it bottom entry. I just removed the velcro and sewed Roz's Exped closed last night; her legs fell through the slit, she wanted it sewn up, so that's what she got!
With Mod 4 I would sew it shut, once I removed the bug net I never found a need to enter through the bottom again.
Some back problems to deal with, but mainly like it for quick entry/exit during mozzie season. Guess it comes down to personal preference. The advice given to try both systems is good.

I would keep it for the option. You never know what the future holds. You may grow to not like the side entry and then have to get down to some seam ripping. Its pretty easy to sew it up later if you decide you don't want it.
