So, I have been doing little DIY things here and there...whoopies, CRL for my tarp, kozies, but now I want to take the next step. My wife has a sewing machine, but I know NOTHING about sewing. I have watched the stickied vids, but I'm still skeptical. What should I start out with first?
What if I can't sew a straight line?
right down the street is a fabric store. they have free classes (you buy fabric) and they teach you to sew pillows, quilts and things. check your area out. never know :)
I am in a similar boat. I have now purchased some of the materials I need to make my first "real" project, some DIY Z-liners. I'm still practicing with scraps of fabric trying different stitches and working on making straight lines. So I guess what I am saying is that I would just go by some cheap fabric or use some old sheets and just practice until you feel comfortable. Good luck.
You won't. Not until you have some practice under your belt. There.... Your worries are over. Nothing more to fret about. Fire the beastie up and make you first horrible awful crooked line. No sweat. You won't break anything.Quote:

I have made plenty of things now and with some of the outdoor fabrics I STILL can't even sew a straight line. They can be tough. Use your testosterone and wrestle them into submission. It isn't a beauty contest. Just get some stitches in the thing :)Quote:
