Hello from Georgia
New to this forum...have gone in circles trying to find a shelter system thar suited me. Finaly decided to give hammocking a try...made my own and its great. Here in my part of Ga we have ticks, friends of ticks and all thier relatives and thats the reason I abandoned my sleeping on the ground under a tarp (tents tend to make me somewhat clausterphobic)
As I type this, electrons are streaming thier way to Colorodo to Brandon at Warbonnet..."pulled the trigger" on a Traveller, BigMammaJamma and a removable bug net.
I'm a tinkerer at heart so I'll probably experiment with some other suspension systems like everyone else on here. Right now I'm using a desender ring setup on my homemade rig and it seems to work fine, very simple. I would like to try making some "whoopie slings", we use something on a bigger scale at work with our lifting slings and they hold large transformers and I have seen one fail yet.
Anyway, thats for all the advice ya'll have already given.

Welcome to HF. I lived in Statham before the first traffic light...I remember the ticks.
That was before I could afford a hammock and I went camping with a house blanket and a shower curtain in a 5 gallon bucket. Eventually I upgraded to a $20 A-frame tent. Now I'm addicted to too much gear...sounds like you're on your way too! :jj:
