RR suspension mod using Dutchware

I had a play with the suspension of my new WBRR using some Dutchware products and thought it may be of interest to some .
On my last hike it was a bit difficult for me to find clearings between the slightly longer distances between trees needed for the RR. So I was looking for ways to make the RR suspension a bit more shorter and flexible with out compromising stability and over stressing the spreader bars. First I used some whoopies to one Dutch buckle on the foot end , this worked well and I was able to reduce the length of the suspension triangle with out making the hammock too unstable.
Then I thought of using two Dutch Buckles on one strap so the outside diameter of the tree could included into the suspension triangle, this made the hammock very stable.

Since I only had 2 buckles I looked a ways to use my clips , but have since put in an order for some more buckles. This mod to me added allot more flexibility without any additional weight. I will take it with me on my next hike and test it " in the wild "

That is a really good idea with the two dutch buckles on each end of a tree strap. That certainly should allow you to hang the RR between trees closer together than otherwise is needed.

What is that other Dutch device that is allowing you to attach your Whoopie through the strap called and where can you get them? I couldn't find it on his site. I must have more Dutchware!

I believe that is the new style Dutch Clip. They are sold through JRB.

Those are my newest Ti Dutch Clips and JRB will soon carry them but foe now you can only get them at Dutchware.com.

why the design change? is it stronger or lighter or different? sure looks cooler

I was mainly looking for a way to be able to reduce the distance needed to hang the RR without putting extra stress on the spreader bars .

My local 800km long hike trail has 48 nearly identical shelters that I can use if any strong storms develop. The shelters have two structural beams about 11 foot apart in them.

I found I could not hang the RR in the shelter as I could my WBBB.

Using both ends of the strap with Dutch Buckles I can include the outside diameter of the beam into the suspension triangle and keep the angles and stresses the same as designed.
So if you add up the 6" length of the continuous loop , about 4" for buckles and strap plus the 6" beam diameter , I can reduce my hang length over one foot each end.

So far I have only converted over the foot end , my DL RR weighs 25 oz . Including 2 Dutch buckles and Clips , 2 5.5' straps , 2 7' whoopies, 1 small continuous loop.

And I probably spend too much time thinking about hiking and hammocks when I should be sleeping or working ................ plus it does look good.

This Mod plus the trekking pole adaptors have now made the RR my main hiking hammock.
