Permethrin!
Sawyer's makes a spray version... Repels them, and kills the ones that aren't repelled...
agreed permethrin rules, hose down your whole rig, your backpack, your clothes....creates a huge no fly zone.
I'll be trying the Thermacell next week in the swamp to see how its does.
Thanks, I've tried the Thermocell last summer in northern MN, I would use it before I crawled in and for a little while once in. However I was never attacked from the top, they still came from the underside.
Thanks for the idea, I will have to pick some up and see what magic it holds!
ibigpaddle, so the Thermacell didn't creat a complete bubble of protection? matters not really because my gear has been twice soaked with the spray on permethrin (the one sold at Dicks) and let dry...that tech worked in Vermon on the AT for mossies, blackflies, and green flies...one horsefly did penetrate and draw blood.
I'd hoped the Thermacell would create a bubble only for while cooking/eating, once in the hammock besides the permethrin they have to deal with a double layer and on my upcoming trip I'm carrying a pad just to increase the distance between their needles and my flesh.

I've got a PapaSmurf bug sock somewhere, where is the ? arrrrggg
