Yes! And good luck. Most all of my troop are hangers now. And when we go down the lower Colorado river this fall we'll take stands with us. Hope for some rain. That'll show them.
Rain and lumpy ground seems to steer more people to hammocks than anything else. I went on a few trips and couldn't seem to interest folks in getting off the ground. After a deluge one night on a rocky and uneven campsite I awoke dry and well rested. The rest of my party was busy mopping puddles of water out of their tents and glaring at me for being so "chipper".
Me too. I'm leaving on Sunday and hope to keep away from those camp cots and canvas platform tents.
Also hope for a break in the heat.
njredneck: Good luck with the camp! Where are you headed???
@doogie: Ahhhh... the joys of Boy Scout summer camp...canvas tents and cots! Where the spiders and other creepy crawlies run free. :D
My sons troop is heading out on July 22 to Camp Ockanickon, near Allentown, PA. I'm a noob, but I'm trying to get my hammock set up dialed in by then so I don't have to sleep in the tents. I don't expect that there's going to be much opportunity to sleep, so whatever there IS, I'd like to maximize the experience as much as possible.
Hope y'all have fun and good weather!

we are heading to hawk mountain scout reserve. leaving sunday morning just in time for the heat to break.:)
Awesome. I loved my first hanging summer camp. Woke up refreshed and ready to keep up with the scouts every day.
We are taking 10 scouts out on a 50-miler tomorrow - Hiking from Echo Lake to Tahoe City in the Sierras. I'll be hanging in there. (See what I did there?)
Have a blast at summer camp and convert the masses to the right way to camp.
@njredneck: too funny! You're not gonna be too far from where we'll be! Small world. Good luck with the adventure.
@23digits...sorry, that was really bad. Nicely done!
Good luck on the hike. Fiddy miles is very impressive. Stay safe!
If y'all have a chance, be sure to take some pics and post them of your setup. And, report back on all the new converts . :D

Best of luck with Scout camp. I had no nibbles on hanging until a sudden down pour this year that left me high and dry and the canvas and ground dwellers soaked. Now if I could just figure out how to improve the food
I'm heading out next week also. Heading to Frontier Camp in Pioneer, Ohio. So glad that the heat is suppose to break by then. Although if it would have stayed in the 70's at night I would have to worry about insulation very much.
I still need to get my setup dialed in, but my BIAS hammock has been great so far in the back yard. Hoping I can get the troop into this and maybe make some DIY hammocks this fall.
