3/4 vs full
I am looking to buy my first underquilt and I can not decide between a 3/4 length or a full length.
My environment includes summers that are 60-90F, spring and falls temps of 40-60F. Winters are below 40 to 10F which I really don't do too much camping in.
For those Canadians, I will do alot of camping in Ontario or in New York state.
I am thinking a 3/4 is good enough and adding a pad should be enough to get me by in the late fall and early spring months.
Your help, and experience would be greatly appreciated.

Just depends if you want to mess with a pad. I just purchased a 3/4 and now buying a full length. I want to drop the pad and I also think it will be less adjusting with the full length.

This is such personal choice and depends on your priorities, hiking style and other gear.
I find a 3/4 and pad are lighter and take up less room in my pack. I like to take a sit pad anyway. Also I am cheap so 3/4 fit my budget better
Also it is easy to have a summer 3/4 and a shoulder season 3/4 and use both for winter.

hmm good points. I am used to carrying 85L+ worth of gear. That is a big bag!

I like having the pad in case I ever have to go to the ground. Plus other functions.

I like the full length, less fuss for colder weather.

For cooler weather I love my full UQ but have been considering a 3/4 UQ for the warmer seasons, thinking of getting a 40* overstuffed by 2oz so it should be good to 30* in a pinch (at least in my mind) - really just trying to lower my pack weight and pack volume. But I really LOVE my UGQ UQ!!

I've been thinking of going the other way and getting a winter full length. I've seen it said that a full quilt has the possibility of bunching and leaving cold spots.
As for the 3/4, I'm happy with mine and always have a sit pad or fleece that does what's needed for my legs anyways.

I have a 20° and 40° full length. There were times the temps dropped way below the forecast and I was glad to have the full length - just jump in and get cozy! My feet get cold first so the full length really helps and I can always supplement with a coat or small pad.
Since I got the 20° I am considering selling the 40°. I think a 3/4 would be nice for those 45-50° nights. They both pack to about the same size, so it's a bit of a waste now that I look at it.

You could have one custom made to fit you perfectly, longer than 3/4, but shorter than a full... Best of both worlds.......:)
