Camping suggestions close to I-81...

Hello all, I have a bit of a weird request. I'm going to be driving down to Virginia in a couple weeks, and I have thought about trying to find a place to set up the hammock for the night around the halfway point or so. This would be somewhere in Pennsylvania...ish. What I'm looking for is some place that is fairly close to I-81 that I can just drive to and throw the hammock up for the night and catch some Z's. Anyone have any suggestions?




Side note to the mods, I wasn't sure where to put this thread. Feel free to put in appropriate forum, if this isn't it...

A few suggestions, depending on how far South you want to stop.

1.) Tom's Run Shelter, near Carlisle, PA. Park at Pine Grove Furnace SP & hike 3.7 miles South to shelter area. Nice big area with tons of hanging options. (7.8 miles off I-81)

2.) Antietam Shelter, near Waynesboro, PA. Park at Old Forge State Forest Picnic Area & short stroll (600ft?) South to the shelter area. Large area just past spring. (18.5 miles off I-81)

3.) Dahlgren Backpacker Camp near Boonsboro, MD. Park at the Old South Mountain Inn & stroll 1/4 mile South into the campground. Room for 8-10 hammocks just off main campsites. (15.8 miles off I-81)
