There are two ways to go about it. The first is the best way, but is more complicated.
1st method - Upload the pics to the gallery. Do this by clicking the 'Gallery' link at the top left of the page, and select 'upload photos'. That will present you with a page of options where you can uplod 3 photos at a time. Then, once it's done, find them in the gallery and below that will be an 'IMG' tag that you can copy into your post.
2nd method - Click the 'paperclip' icon above the reply window to just attach the images inline. The photos won't be available for browsing in the gallery that way, though.
Both of these methods require you to click the 'Post Reply' button at the bottom of a thread, instead of just using the quick reply window.
You can upload them to the gallery and link to them from your post, or you can use the Manage Attachments button (in Advanced editing mode) to attach the pictures to your post.
Hmmm... I see AS has answered already. I think we used to be able to delete posts, whatever happened to that option? This post is unnecessary now.
I use Photobucket to host my images. I use the free account. After uploading your pics you will automatically get an link so that you can post images in a thread with the same IMG tag angrysparrow talked about.
i recently discovered that way of showing pictures. i think that's the best way to show lots of pictures from a trip, especially when a lot of them aren't hammock pictures.
that way we can keep the HF gallery more hammock focused & still make pictures from our trips available to the others here.

Well, I've gotta throw a shout out for Smugmug.
They give you unlimited picture storage for $39.95 a year.
The service automatically resizes your full-resolution pictures, allows you to organize into categories and sub-categories, gives you the power to embed slideshows, etc. And if you sign up using a coupon code (like mine: sA9I4bmgcofRU), you get $5 off right away.
And I also get a discount for my next renewal. :D

From my 30th birthday party. A bunch of adults (a little inebriated) running around in one of those inflatable part things.
That is a great idea, let me see if it works for flickr
