First Hammock success
Well, I have made my first hammock and I am pleased with it. I purchased some rip stop material (non nylon) from the $1.00 bin at Walmart. I also purchased some 1" webbing from the same place. I first made a test hammoch per Risk's page with a knot on each end no hemming. I Liked it, but immediately wanted to do some changes. My wife has been wanting a sewing machine for awhile so I bought her one for an early mothers day gift. I Hemmed the long sides (while being accused of having alterior motives for my wifes gift) I added a ridge line and re hung using a sheet bend on each end instead of a bug knot. The ridge line really made a difference and I love it. Spent four hours in it tonight. It started to rain, which reminds me Oh yeah need a tarp. I plan on whipping the ends and I am working on a bug net for it. I have also taken a trip to another towns walmart and found some Ripstop nylon. I have already hemmed a double layer hammock with it and want to try and ad side tabs. I bought enough to try and make something similar to Jeff's gear hammock and pack cover. I think I am addicted. I am taking our Royal Ranger outpost on a survival training campout in a few weeks. Everyone can only bring what they can fit into a shoe box for the campout. I plan to have all the aspects of my hammock system finished and it will easily fit in a shoe box. I took some pictures, but I haven't figured out how to post them on here. If someone can give me some pointers I will post them. I just want to say thanks to everyone who has paved the way out there, I have been gaining lots of knowledge from reading all the posts

Congratulations!
I know your hammock will serve you will. I also believe that there would be more projects to come. Post your picture by clicking "gallery" and then "upload photos." Just follow the instructions. We hope to see your pictures soon.:)

good move on the "mother's day" gift<g>.
i would keep an eye on the 1" webbing from wal-mart. most people have done fine w/ it, but it's broke on me a couple times.
on the pictures, if you can get them on your pc's desk top, then go to gallery & find the most suited category for your picture (probably "home made gear"), then click on "upload".
click on "browse" & you should see something identifying your pictures listed w/ every thing else on your desk top.
give it a try & see what happens. ...tim

Well, I have the photos in the gallery, how do I add them to this thread?

Hammock looks great, scottcatchot. That stuff you are using for bug netting is seriously making me dizzy looking at it :D.

Great job scottcatchot. I guess the idea is to confuse and disorient the bugs? :)

It is really werid stuff (1.oo ayrd walmart special) You can see through it pretty easy from the inside, but the flash really picks up the camo stuff and makes it hard to see through.

Jazilla,
Thanks for the info on how to post pictures, and thanks for posting them for me. Yeah, they labeled it as cammo netting, it isn't a pattern I am familiar with, i like it cause it is different. It really is a whole lot easier to see out of than the picture shows, I guess because of the flash since it was dark.
