If using a standard 11' tarp, 14' is just barely long enough if you use skins. You need a little extra room for the skins when they're pulled back, otherwise you have to remove them, and that's a PITA.

We've reached the 100 mark everyone! It has been a joy watching the acceptance and evolution of this stand. Since this page has gotten rather long We'll be starting on the second hundred. Enjoy and have fun.
I made mine yesterday using 16 of the 4ft aluminum pipes. It was really easy to lash the poles together. I have not hung my hammock from it yet
Attachment 41019here is a pic of the 4 that I made for the scout troop.
So how much does an aluminum set weigh including the top pole?
Hi there here is my turtle dogstand, I had to use 2x4 , there were no good 2x2 at the store, and i was afraid that they would not hold me and kids who like to hang with me (would be close to 500 lbs), I tried to just use the hinge but there was not enough room to close it down, do i took some angle iron i had laying arround, Im going to use some tubeing to cover edges on angle, i guess this would count as 101 ?
How long is it going to take y'all to call this thing, "T-Dawg"? I mean, really...
I made one a few weeks ago out of some stuff we had lying around. It's held up thus far-

It hangs from paracord until I get some Amsteel. The washer is welded there to stop it from slipping off.

The Prussick like things slide and act like a RL that allows you to easily adjust sag. The top tube is about 14 feet.

All taken down. It's not very pretty, but it works. I'll be hanging in it this weekend.
