I made the mistake of not clearing briar vines from under my WB 1.7 DL hammock and ended up with a six inch tear in the bottom layer.
Although I considered Duct Tape, I failed to make any repairs. On the second night, my bottom layer tore from side to side.
Any suggestions for repairs? I'm considering "sail ripstop tape" but want to check for other suggestions before I commit.
My kids tore the bottom of my 1.0 dl bb - started with a 2 inch rip on the outer layer - I sail taped it and it didn't hold worth a darn - turned into a 20" rip from side to side. I ordered some ripstop from the backwoods daydreamer guy and sewed a patch. That worked ok - I did one line of stitch at first, and that started to give, so I doubled it up, and that seemed to hold under my lean 190lbs. In the meantime I contacted Brandon at WB and he thought a hole that big was not servicable, and I bought a 1.1 double. And I agreed with him that something as important as your sleep system ought to be the most reliable piece of kit, so I didn't think twice about ordering a new one. For my weight (190), it's questionable, but I'm keeping the tattered one for my kids - I don't hesitate to put a 50 or 60 pounder in there on top of my ugly sewn patch, and so far that's holding splendidly for them.Quote:

Soooo, my suggestion - forget the sail tape - it didn't work for me at all. I would go straight to sewing a patch. Look up repairing a sail on youtube and use the same method. And definitely run two lines of stitching. And be sure you get all the creases out before you sew - any fold in there with put a lot of stress on a line of stitches. Good luck.

on a single layer, The hammock is now in the possession of a friend, but has been slept in at least 20 nights with no signs of wear.

When you finish your repair, if you could post: what you did, how you did it, etc. That would be great.
A well sewn patch should hold it. I'd overlap the sides of the hole by several inches to spread the stitches out.
No no no. SEND IT BACK TO BRANDON!!!!! You might even find a brand new one in the box when it gets back.
