Newbe
Great site by the way. My name is Slowpace and I am a ground sleeper. It all started when I was just a youngster. Maybe through this site I will be able to beat this problem. Thanks for all your support. Now that we have that out of the way. I have a spinnaker from a sail boat I use to have. It is made of some very colorful rip-stop nylon. If you have seen sailboats with this huge sail you know what I am talking about. My question is can this be used to make hammocks with? If so I have enough to make quite a few. I would like to pattern it after the Hennesy Asym. Help me if you can. I know nothing about make a hammock.

Welcome from across the river! I have not yet joined the ranks of the "thread injectors," but there is a ton of information here on how to make all things hammock.

Here's a tutorial that lots of folks have used. Take a look and see if it will do what you want.
If you can get a 60" x 160" rectangle straight grain (in line with the grid) without seams I would think your spinnacker should work fine. You are going to want to avoid the bias and avoid any seams.

Hello and welcome!
Here is the link you need: Do it youself hennessy asym hammock.
For the material, I'm not sailing savvy enough to know (I live in a desert ;) ). I'm guessing it's fine though. If not, you can double it over and make a double layer hammock and that would almost certainly be good to go. The double layer is handy for inserting a sleeping pad in anyway.
Of course all the disclaimers about an individual's weight apply here.
(and it looks like I was beat to it by Rev..... what he said!)

A friend of mine made a hammock that lays pretty nice. He made it out of a old sail. Whether or or not it was spinnaker I can not say for sure. Nose around this site and you will find a wealth of information on how to make and modify hammocks and hammock gear.

A big Kentucky welcome. Hope you can find what you need at the forums. If you are new to gear making you might want to try something easier first. Making a simple hammock would get you the skills you need and would give you a place to rest when you get tired of putting the asym together. :)
Here is a simple hammock to put together.
