Hi guys, just come over to the hammock 'thing' recently after many years of looking in from the ground-dwelling bivi bag + tarp life. I picked up 2 models to be trying out: the DD Travel and the Nomad's Land XXL. I'll keep you all informed of my findings up in the air, share any pics/vids and keep on reading all the info here.

I have a rugged nephew, a former Outward Bound instructor, who says he has perfected his rig, using bivvy and tarp. I've kinda been expecting to hear from him one of these days, but nothing yet!

Welcome Dunk :D Glad to have you hanging around. Much better than writhing around on the ground in pain from the tree root in your back.
A hammock is just a bivy for someone smart enough not to lay on the ground anymore.

I progressed from tenting to loving the simplicity of a bivy/tarp, until I bought one of the original hennesey hammocks from REI on a lark and doh! my back didnt hurt anymore! That was the end of the ground. Like has been said, the hammock is a bivy/tarp levitating off the ground!
