Other than looking cool, I haven't found anything the S-biners will do that the mini biners won't. I may be wrong, but I seem to recall the minis being rated quite a bit higher than the S-biners.

look at wm in the rope and chain section, bought some number 2s last week at my wm.
Yeah,
I was able to find some S-biners at my local WM awhile ago, but they are not there anymore. I was thinking the same thing OG that the mini biners were stronger also. but I was hoping to make the biners be the weakest link in the connection system also. That way the biners would fail before the tarp was ripped (silnylon).
Good stuff so far everybody, plenty of stuff to think about. Let's discuss this for awhile, if you don't mind. :D
BC... I think I was able to successfully load up a #2 plastic to about 25 pounds before it would get to the point Id worry about it failing.... It could have been closer to 19 too. Its been awhile.
If it's anything like cordage and webbing, the Working Load Limit (WLL) is a fractional part of the actual breaking strength of the product. In the case of some ratchet straps I just bought, the WLL is one third of the breaking strength. Dunno what NiteIze is using...perhaps an inquiry will yield the answer.
Battery Junction is the go to place for all things NiteIze, btw. Good outfit.
It seems that everybody is as Opie would say "I'm all over it!" Anyone reading this thread now knows that a reliable scource of the S-biners most commonly used for Hammock stuff is at JRB's place. And Opie has given us some test result information. I have also received some PM's indicating that field testing has already or soon will begin.
Thankee so very much guys. :D

If you need to hold 90 lbs. with s-biner, you could use nine of them simultaneously.
Not to say every #2 s-biner will do this, but the one that's been on my cell phone for the last year or so just held @ 50+# on my fish scale. I didn't quite believe that, so I checked the scale on a 50# sack of feed, and it was on the money. The s-biner still works, and is back on my phone.
A loop of 3/32" shock cord made it to 38#, at which time the sheath failed at the fisherman's bend. The elastic did not fail, but continued to stretch.
