-22*F is my personal low.
Was already pummeled by the first post but used a pad comfortably down to 15° yesterday
Shug and fronkey are the guys to hear from I'm thinking..... I think fronkey's last adventure might have taken the record for both cold and wind. Hopefully they reply...interested to hear the details.
Mine was -26ºF......along with kwpapke.
We never even had a fire as it was a backpacking trek.
It was a true learning experience))))))))
Shug
My last trip out I endured 50-60mph winds and my thermometer crapped out at around -25f. However, I don't count the temp because the mercury could have easily dipped lower because of the insane windchill. Shug and kwpapke still hold the record at the moment in my opinion. Funny enough, I was only a mile or so away from where they had that cold night.
It was a loooong night of no sleep and constant tarp adjustments. No tarp was meant to hold up against winds that strong and even with a good campsite selection, my tarp didn't stand a chance. But, it was a great learning experience. If I ever came across winds that severe, I would honestly just go to ground and pitch my tarp wide and flat to repel as much wind as possible.
I lost my camera before the night, but I did take some small crappy video with my phone. I kept getting weather alerts that windchill gusts could hit -45f so I threw Tala in the hammock with me.
Fronkey
I'm sure Tala appreciated it to. I know Huskies are built for cold weather, but those temps are a little extreme. My personal best is a balmy 30 deg in a hammock and 21 deg in a lean-to, I plan on breaking that this weekend. Friday night temp should be a warm 17 deg.
