Question on Nylon and Poly Straps

Hey guys,

I hope this isn't a frequently asked question. I searched for the answer but found non that was direct.

I am wanting to get some new straps. I was thinking of getting Eno Atlas but was a little hesitant on the weight and the cost. I noticed that they look essentially like a daisy chain used for climbing so I thought I'd look into getting some daisy chain for my suspension. Until I saw that most daisy chain is made out of nylon in which I have read on this site that nylon stretches over the course of the night. I see that Atlas are most likely polyester which shouldn't stretch.

I have slap straps pro but I have two problems with them. One, the loops seem to be perfectly placed to not fit what I need on most scenarios. Two, I always find myself hanging a lot lower due to the sag.

Do they make polyester daisy chains and is there a way I can get a good length? Maybe 10'? I also see that Atlas is a good bit shorter than slap straps as well.

I just got back from a four day trip to Harriman State park in NY. I used the Hammock Bliss extra long straps and they're made of nylon and had no problem like everyone is talking about. I started in one position and woke up in the same position. The straps never seem to be long enough though. Those trees are always wider than the straps and I sometimes had to improvise with the ropes that came with the hammock. As for using the atlas straps, I have no experience.

I guess the reason for not having any problem is that I used a marlin spike hitch with the standard Grand Trunk carabiner over the knot. USE A MARLIN SPIKE HITCH AND YOU CAN HANG AT ANY DISTANCE WITHOUT WORRYING ABOUT WHERE THE LOOP IS.

If you are still having problems hang em' high. As you can see, I don't do daisy chains.

I am not aware of any daisy chain straps made from poly, though there may be some available. Based on the stretch issue, I also use poly straps with either a marlin hitch or fixed toggle. By minimizing the stretch I am able to set a comfortable hang that maintains throughout the night.

What size webbing to use for tree huggers.

I have a friend who used the Atlas Straps and they work great for his use. Using the marlin spike hitch is one of the easiest ways to be able to hang anywhere along the length of the strap. Most people feel straps should be at least 1" in width to protect the trees.

Thanks. I got my hand on some rescue climbing webbing. Was hoping it would work.

Kammock's pythons are poly daisy chains.

Just so everyone is confirmed, ENO Atlas is made from 100% polyester
