Prusik knot
I have read on these boards (somewhere) about tying a length of strong rope (spectra-like) between two trees and then using a prusiks knot at each end of hammock, that way the curve could be changed and you would have a built in ridgeline. Has anyone tried this? If so, how did it do? Any pictures of the setup?
Cheers

I think Frolicking Dino has a setup similar to that. The only issue I could see with using prusiks for attaching to the suspension is that the diameter of the suspension cord would have to be pretty large, and therefore possibly heavier than you'd want. If I remember right, I think Dino is using webbing to hang from instead of cord - solving the thickness problem, of course. I guess I might be a little wary of "bunching" the webbing at the attachment points, but the webbing I use is pretty durable, too.

Another consideration of the Prusik and Spectra is that Spectra does not wear well when abraded and a Prusik Knot is basically an abrasion type knot. Spectra may be stronger than steel cable in overall strength to weight ratios but the lack of abrasion resistance of Spectra is a concern you should consider.
