I've all but given up trying. I'm in the back of the subdivision but still hear the crotch rockets screaming down the road. My trees are on the side with the street light so there's no such thing as a dark night. Then mix in the AC and dogs and I usually end up back inside. I try ear plugs but hearing myself breath drives me nuts. :)

the worst i hear is the dog next door, no road noise. once in a while i hear a low flying airplane but thats about it other then the ocational coyote

My house is right next door to the 405 freeway. It's just bearable with ear plugs.

Neighbors are quite, most are 80+, one of those neighborhoods...where the realtors follow the ambulances. About a half mile from two train tracks on cool clear notes there can be up to 4 trains but not too bad, depends on how much Jameson I had before crawling in for the night....

While I live a quarter mile from the main hwy thru my area and the fire station is close by, it rarely bothers me while sleeping in the backyard.
On the other hand, those tree frogs can get loud.

Wow, you folks have to put up with allot. Its hunting season here so lots of ATV traffic on the back roads. Most of the time i don't hear it except when they're going home for the day and pass by my place otherwise its pretty quiet except for the noise of the rapids on the river, but is that noise??,you can't complain about that.

I too tried to sleep in the yard last night...loud and annoying people talking doors shutting traffic ...but my husband had no problem sleeping.

I guess I'm blessed. We only have an occasional barking dog, a couple of owls, our own compressor and an occasional helicopter. The school bus goes by at 6:15a.m.

It's tough here too. All of the above and them some, right down to the bird in one of my suspension trees that will let me know how unhappy she is to be sharing, even in pitched darkness, all throughout the night. At dawn, when I usually give up and go inside, as all the rest of the birds are waking up, she'll fly away! :sneaky:
Smart bird
