I have a Safari and was thinking of sewing a ultra lite pad packet under it to add a closed cell reflective pad to help keep it in it's place. Any advice, suggestions, warnings, ramblings, predictions, or off the wall ideas that pop into your minds are most welcome? Thank you in advance for your assistance in this and future matters that will most definitely come up.
I've thought of that too. If you cut the pad to shape, more or less, but left the corners on a more square cut, then my idea was to just sew light webbing on an angle at each corner. Then maybe run 1 or 2 across the center, side to side and that should hold it in place. Rather than a whole 'pocket'. Another thought would be sew on buttons at the corners on the hammock bottom per the shape of the pad and at the edge centers. I think maybe then you could beef up the pad at the button holes with a fabric patch on each side of the pad. Just thinkin out loud.

It's called a double layer hammock.
Anything different (buttons , straps, etc.) leave potential gaps for pad to pucker and allow heat to escape.
Simple fix is to hang a seperate piece of fabric on shockcord below your existing hammock, if sewing the second layer is not an option.

I made a hammock with one in it and it didn't work out good...
the problem i ran into was after a few nights in it the places where you sewed the pocket at started to stretch apart it was only a matter of time befor
it ripped and i ended up on the ground...
you would be better off just adding another layer to the entire bottom just like a dbl layer hammock
i know Just jeff made a hammock something like that too and he had no problem with his.... i think alot of it will have to do with your weigh as well..
i'm 200lbs ....maybe if you are like 180lbs you might be better off i dunno
i think it's hit or miss...some ppl had don't it and it worked...and others had problems like i ran into
honestly if your going to go through all that trouble why not just buy some climashield apex ($40) and make an UQ instead of sewing into your hammock this way you don't do anything to harm your hammock and you have an UQ...there very easy to make
I went with one of the new breathable ripstop UQ protectors from 2QZQ. Even without a pad it adds a bit of extra warmth. Over my UQ I could tell a significant difference. When I get a chance to play I want to see if I can put some elastic on the corners of my foam pad and use the UQP to help hold it in place. I might even be able to stitch some crossgrain or similar on the UQP. Since it's under no load there's little or no worry about tearing.
I had ask 2QZQ to do this mod a month or so ago but they do not do it. I had a zipper mod done for now and maybe in the future they will consider doing a pocket mod of some sort. They did an awesome job on my zipper mod. Looking forward to a no net convertible hang this weekend.
You'd prob have to do what is essentially a double layer. I think sewing a piece to the hammock just in the area you want a pad would leave the perimeter pretty much a perforated area waiting to be popped out.
